A hobby can be absolutely anything you put your mind to, as long as you love doing it.
A number of hobbies keep me entertained for most part of the day. Coin collection, people watching (yes it is a hobby) and origami. If anyone is wondering how a person could have hobbies in such diverse fields, well to them I say one thing- "Thats just who I am!!"
From a very young age, I have been amazed as to how one could possibly make such beautiful and intricate designs with... 'just a sheet of paper'. Origami is the art of folding paper in different directions in such a way that it turns out to be something so much more than 'just a sheet of paper', but a beautiful intricately designed work of art. Not only is origami fun, it has been proved that one who does a lot of origami, is a person who is less likely to get arthritis. Apart from which, origami kind of boosts my self confidence and creativity, as different folds can create different art. Origami being a 17th century creation, has evolved into 'modern art', and that does not make me proud to say that I cannot brag about my mediocre origami skills. But then again, whats a hobby if doesn't cause you any relief? That is exactly what origami does to me. When my mind is idle, it turns into the the 'origami' workshop. This is what one can safely call... a good kind of addiction.
Ever since I was a little girl, my father has been the type to travel a lot. This was one of the reasons I started collecting coins. When my father would come back from a different country, he would give me a coin/s which I would keep in a small box. Over the years, I have a vast collection of coins, even antique pieces! People have even offered to buy off some of the coins that I own, but this being a hobby that has a lot of emotion attached to it, I have never even given selling the coins away for a good price a thought.
Another unusual "hobby" of mine is people watching. For those who do not know what exactly this hobby is, people watching is when one goes to a public area and observes people and their interactions. This helps me pick up lot about people and expressions. Creepy I know but I enjoy this a lot.
Apart from these, the normal post teenage hobbies are always on the plate. When it comes to wasting time creatively, one can never forget the internet. For me, the internet has always been my best friend. When I have nothing much to do, I write my other blog, 214 online. Which has a number of poems and stories. Also, I love playing with my dog and turtles and feeding other dogs on the streets. TV, book reading and looking up new words are also things I love to do during my spare time. And though they are not much of a hobby, these things make me both peaceful and happy.
